Ferro Titanium
Ferro titanium is a ferro alloy, an alloy of iron and titanium and sometimes a small amount of carbon. It is used as a cleansing agent in steel making. Sometimes it is also used for deoxidizing, and sometimes for desulfurization and denitrification.
Titanium has a high affinity towards oxygen but lower when compared to aluminium and zirconium. When de-oxidized, titanium has shows an affinity towards the dissolved nitrogen gas in the molten steel and produces a compound like titanium nitride (TiN) which floats up to the surface of the bath liquid. This dissolved material is then removed by the use of titanium as ferro titanium.
